World Cities Day 2022: ZPMC Drives Global Urbanization and Sustainable Development with Advanced, Intelligent and Green Technologies

SHANGHAI,China,Nov. 24,2022 -- On the occasion of World Cities Day 2022,Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co.,Ltd. (ZPMC),the world's largest port machinery manufacturer,is reiterating its commitment to promoting the sustainable development of cities and building intelligent,efficient and environmentally friendly city hubs. Marked on October 31 since 2014,World Cities Day is an annual United Nations observance day,aiming to raise awareness of the role of urbanization in global sustainable development and social inclusion. As a legacy of the Expo 2010 in Shanghai,this year's World Cities Day has the theme "Act Local to Go Global" with the aim to empower local and regional governments to create greener and more sustainable cities.

Fitting in with this theme,ZPMC has constructed many major ports around the world in recent years,making significant contributions to global urbanization,One such port is the Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT),in Long Beach,California,the first fully-automated port in North America. ZPMC played a major part in its construction,and recently,the port celebrated its one-year anniversary of its official opening. Located in one of the most important ports in the U.S. west coast,the LBCT combined two existing ports into one modern port,and the annual throughput has been doubled to reach 3.3 million standard containers.

An efficient and intelligent port: the LBCT port has achieved the highest efficiency in the U.S.,and ZPMC designed and constructed all of its core equipment.

14 double lift and double trolley quay cranes and 5 automatic railway track cranes to achieve maximum automation to improve handling efficiency;

69 automatic track cranes to achieve fast stacking and turning over of containers;

Automatic equipment,ship shore power system and more in-port rail lines to air pollution emissions.

A green and sustainable port: the application of automated equipment has transformed the LBCT into the most environmentally-friendly port in the world. The Port of Long Beach connects with 217 sea ports through 175 ship routes worldwide,processing 200 billion USD worth of commodity trade annually and having greatly reduced the pressure on local road transportation. The increase of the port's trade volume has also created 14,000 jobs in southern California.

Dr. Robert Garcia,Mayor of Long Beach,noted at LBCT's completion ceremony that they are proud to have a green port at the Port of Long Beach,and the completion of the new port has delivered on the city's commitment to sustainability and application of green technologies.

As the first full-automated port in North America and one of the most automatic ports in the world,the LBCT has promoted further development of America's second busiest harbor,and it's also a milestone for ZPMC in advancing global urbanization and sustainable development with advanced technologies.
