Hyperion launches a blockchain-based open mapping architecture to decentralize mapping
SINGAPORE,Aug. 3,2018 -- Hyperion,an open blockchain-based mapping architecture based on Hyperion Digital Location Right (HDLR),has announced the official launch of its mapping technology. Hyperion aims to fundamentally disrupt existing mapping systems by providing the infrastructure to support a completely decentralized,self-governing global map that users anywhere can contribute to,edit or utilize for their own needs, and share the economic value.
Hyperion launches a blockchain-based open mapping architecture to decentralize mapping
Dr. Isaac Zhang, the founder of Hyperion, said:
"In the smartphone age, everyone has access to incredibly detailed maps right in the palm of your hand. However, the way we develop and maintain these maps has hardly changed for centuries-- we still rely on centrally controlled,top-down information systems. In an era where information is becoming increasingly decentralized and community-led,we believe this is incredibly anachronistic. Hyperion changes that by shifting control of our mapping infrastructure from a centrally held model to a decentralized, democratized model that leverages the fundamental strengths of blockchain technology."
The Hyperion ecosystem addresses a number of key pain points in mapping development. First, the cost of developing and maintaining detailed,up-to-date maps using a top-down model is hugely expensive and inefficient, requiring mapping companies or governments to dispatch staff to gather information locally. Second, this model makes it difficult to ensure that maps are accurate or up-to-date,since resources will be allocated to maintaining different parts of the map at different times. Third, current mapping infrastructure is controlled by governments or private companies, creating barriers for other users to access or utilize these maps.
Hyperion addresses this using a three-stranded model which it calls the 'Hyperion Trinity'. The trinity consists of (1) mapping technology that allows anyone to partake in the development and maintenance of the maps,(2) an economic model to incentivize and rewards contributors, and (3) community structures to enable a self-governing ecosystem.
Crowd-build to incentive quality global map data contribution and distributed system infrastructure hosting with Hyperion Digital Location Right (HDLR) as reward,i.e.,HDLR mining; that allows anyone to partake in the development and maintenance of the maps.
Crowd-share to establish a sustainable decentralized map economy,in which map services fees are distributed to HDLR owners accordingly by smart contract,HDLR dividend; an economic model to incentivize and rewards contributors.
Crowd-govern to reach consensus on technology and social-economic transition with delegated governance,HDLR voting. The Hyperion global community is consisted of multi-level regional communities governed by HDLR holders delegates of respective
regions. community structures to enable a self-governing ecosystem.
The Hyperion ecosystem is designed to be consensus-driven and transparent. The system is built on three key layers of technology, the Protocol Layer, the Service Layer and the Ecosystem Layer.
The Protocol Layer enables the second two strands of the Trinity -- economic and community management tools. It is based on the Hyperion Protocol Network (HPN),a system that is designed to ensure transparency, privacy and fair ownership of data on the Hyperion platform. The Hyperion Protocol Network is a global network of Hyperion Protocol Nodes with installation of MapChain (Hyperion Blockchain),smart contract, and trusted distributed storage. MapChain, optimized for location data, supports cross-chain communication for enhanced interoperability and smart contract for extensibility. MapChain natively integrates our innovative Spatial Consensus Protocol (SCP) to reach consensus of static location data (map) and dynamic location data (localization) in a secure and verifiable manner. MapChain employs BFT + DPos as block producing consensus algorithm to support scalable map services and enforce a consistent delegated governance structure of the Hyperion community.
The Service Layer includes a full spectrum of open map services with tight integration with MapChain that enable the Hyperion Map Community to produce map data, use map services and trade map data. HMS is comprised of three major modules: the dMapper,a decentralized map production suite for Mappers to produce, update or correct maps; the dMap,a full range of privacy-preserved map services for Map users to use in various contexts; and the Hyperion Marketplace,an open location data marketplace enabling users to trade location data and use location-based services such as location-based advertising.
The Ecosystem Layer offers location-based services (LBS),such as location-based social network, advertisement and gaming, accrue value to HDLR. Hyperion will collaborate with a wide spectrum of LBS to enrich the Hyperion ecosystem. To demonstrate the full power of Hyperion services,Hyperion will develop example LBS including a consuming-facing map service named Titan and a location-based game.
When completed, this ecosystem will create a virtuous cycle of users who are incentivized and rewarded to contribute to the platform, managers who will ensure the quality of data and fairness of the rewards system, and evangelists who will in turn gather more users to the platform.
