CRI Online: Preliminary Results of the First Biodiversity Field Survey in Deyang Section of the Giant Panda National Park Released

DEYANG,China,Dec. 16,2021 -- Recently,the first field survey of biodiversity in Deyang sectionof the Giant Panda National Park was completed and the preliminary results were announced.Through thesurvey,traces of giant pandas and pheasant specieswereobtained,with41 other species of wild animals in the same domainrecorded.

In order to further determinethe situationsof the protected animalsand figure outtheirsurvival rules,in October 2021,the biodiversity survey inDeyang sectionof the Giant Panda National Park was officially launched,mainly investigatinggiant pandas,pheasants,and other rare animal and plant species in Deyang section,and continuously monitoring the statusof the small population of giant pandasin Mount Jiuding.

Thesurvey was carried out in two different periods: breeding season and non-breeding season,focusing on giant panda and pheasant species with the method combiningline transect method and infrared camera technology.Nowthe first field survey has been completed.

Three species of pheasants,namelyTibetan snowcock,Tibetan partridgeand snow partridge,were found in this survey. So far,12 species of pheasants in the biodiverse Deyang section of Giant Panda National Parkhave been recorded.

The survey also recorded41 other species of wild animals in the same region,including 17 species of wildmammalsand 24 species of wild birds.
