KT&G successfully hosts a joint Indonesian-Korean plogging event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and South Korea
1,000 Indonesian and Korean participants united for a jointplogging event
Programs to foster interaction and mutual cultural appreciation were also held
SEOUL,South Korea,Sept. 26,2023 -- KT&G,a global company headquartered in South Korea,held a joint Indonesian-Korean plogging event on the 24th at the GBK Stadium area in Jakarta to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and South Korea.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Indonesia. It drew approximately 1,000 participants,encompassing employees from KT&G TSPM(KT&G's Indonesian subsidiary),Korean residents in Indonesia,and Indonesian citizens,leading to the event's resounding success. Key figures like Yun Sig Jeong,President Director of KT&G TSPM,Sang Deok Lee,South Korean ambassador to Indonesia,Jang Keun Lee,South Korean ambassador to ASEAN,and Jae Hwan Park,President of the Korean Association in Indonesia also joined the event.
The participants dedicated about 2 hours to plogging,a combination of jogging and trash pick-up. Together,they successfully collected a total of 432 kilograms of trash.
KT&G also organized programs to foster interaction and mutual cultural appreciation between Indonesian and Korean participants. Korean culture booths providing hands-on activities like making Korean traditional crafts and food trucks serving Korean dishes were set up. The event also featured K-pop dance and traditional Korean music performances,enriching the cultural exchange experience for all participants.
KT&G held commemorative event for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and South Korea in July as well. The company dispatched a group of college student volunteers to Indonesia,where they engaged in various volunteering activities at an elementary school in the Bogor Region for ten days. These activities included improving the educational environment of the elementary school and educational volunteering. Indonesian college students joined two of these ten volunteer days,which allowed Indonesian and Korean college students to interact and communicate with each other.
KT&G has been operating a local subsidiary in Indonesia from 2011 and since then,the company has been actively engaging in various initiatives to promote cultural exchange and strengthen ties between Indonesia and South Korea. In 2014,KT&G became the first South Korean company to establish a Korean Language Center in Indonesia. By running the Korean Language Center,KT&G has been providing opportunities for Korean language education and cultural experience. Furthermore,KT&G is running a social contribution channel named KT&G Sangsang Univ. Indonesia,which is dedicated to support Indonesian college students in a range of experiences encompassing culture,arts,and volunteering. KT&G Sangsang Univ. Indonesia also organizes events that foster interaction and cultural exchange between Indonesian and Korean college students.
