As a key driver of China's economic transformation & upgrades and the global economy development, sustainability as a goal has been raised to a national and even world-wide scale in terms of strategies. An increasing number of businesses are now giving heightened focus to the quality and sustainability of industry development. Countries around the world are also teaming up to support the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In September 2015,the UN Sustainability Summit passed the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, which took effect on January 1,2016. The UN called upon every nation to take action and strive towards the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Goals encompass three areas of sustainability: social, economic and environmental. Upon the launch of the Agenda,Chinese companies have been proactive in action,e.g.,incorporating the SDGs into their business strategies, fulfilling environmental and social responsibilities and initiating a wide range of beneficial exploration and implementation. Meanwhile, drawing on their previous bilateral development & cooperative experience, the business communities from China and Germany are also joining forces and combining the strengths of participating businesses to explore innovative international cooperative approaches in a bid to further promote sustainable development across the globe.

During the Summit, representatives from Global Compact Network China and Global Compact Network Germany will each introduce how the Sustainable Development Agenda is being implemented in China and Germany respectively. They will also look at how China and Germany can become partners in promoting the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Further, representatives from domestic and overseas industry associations, organizations and institutionswill also share their unique perspectives, experiences and insights on transformation and innovation in industry and commerce, capital market and sustainable development agenda,supply-chain stakeholders, small and medium enterprises,multi-stakeholders and sustainable development in China and Germany.
