Chile and China to deepen collaboration, including in clean energy transition and development
BEIJING,Nov. 25,2022 -- A news report by haiwainet.cn:
EY has published its latest Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI 60),which ranks the most attractive countries for clean energy investment. It recognizes Chile as top 2 countries in South America for investing in renewables, surpassing Argentina, and Mexico.
Since Michelle Bachelet,Former President of Chile, signed off on an "Energy 2050" strategy which sets a goal of generating 70% of national electricity from renewable sources by 2050,the Chilean government has been actively promoting energy transformation, and continuously opening up to the international market to provide global investors with long-term opportunity.
Foreign investment in Chile is playing a key role in the diversification of its energy matrix, incorporating renewable projects that seek to take full advantage of the country's conditions. Chinese enterprises have actively involved in the renewable energy market in Chile, and many large-scale projects have achieved outstanding results. In April 2021,PowerChina Chile Branch successfully signed the CEME1 480MW photovoltaic power plant project in Chile. The project is set to play a positive role in the transformation of Chile's energy structure from traditional fossil fuels to clean energy. PowerChina will give full support in contributing to the sustainable development of Chile's energy sector.
Located high in the Andes Mountains in South America, the Atacama Desert is the driest non-polar desert in the world,it is also where the CEME1 480MW photovoltaic power plant stands. averaging about 2 millimeters (0.08 inches) of rainfall per year, the abundant sunshine and low humidity making it one of the most suitable regions for solar photovoltaic power generation in the world. With an annual power generation of 1 billion kWh,the project is expected to supply enough clean energy to power 700,000 households,to offset 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.
PowerChina has signed 6 photovoltaic power station projects in Chile since 2018. With a total scale of 820MW contracted projects, covering hydropower, clean energy, power transmission and transformation sectors,PowerChina strongly supports Chile's vision for the future development of the renewable-energy market.
