ALBUM LAUNCH: "The Night's Last Words" by Jason Cheng
HONG KONG,Dec. 4,2018 -- The following is a statement issued by Jason Cheng,Founder of Oneday Group Ltd:
"The Night's Last Words" is the title of the new album and is also the title of one of the tracks written by musician, composer, entertainer and entrepreneur,Jason Cheng.
The song has a slow hypnotic rhythm with lots of overtones designed to slow the listener's mind down, and the reason why it's called the night's last words is because it's the last song you listen to before nodding off and wrapping up the day. In fact, all the numbers on the album are sultry and help people unwind after a long day.The album is made up of some of my own compositions and some well-known folk and jazz numbers.
The tracks are a reflection of the times that I've just been through (i.e. the divorce and my mum having a brain hemorrhage) as both events took place at the same time. Whilst dealing with personal challenges,I was also trying to launch a new business called OneDay (https://www.oneday.com.hk). There were moments when I felt like giving up and thankfully those moments were very brief because reality would set in quickly and I realised that too people depended on me. I was also fortunate to have a lot of good friends who gave me strength to soldier on. Music has also given me solace and a channel through which I could express myself.
The main message of the album is to tell people not to despair when the chips are down; there is always a silver lining in every dark cloud... there is a unplanned song that ended up on the album called "Smile" written by Charlie Chaplin - the lyrics are so poignant and in many ways encapsulate how we can all deal with hardship:-
Smile, though your heart is aching,Smile, even though it's breaking,When there are clouds in the sky,You'll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow,Smile and maybe tomorrow,You'll see thesuncome shining through for you,Light up your face with gladness,Hide every trace of sadness. Although a tear may be ever so near. That's the time you must keep on trying. Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile,If you'll just smile.
I recorded the album by asking the sound engineer to press record and I just played. Half the tracks on the album were unplanned and conversely there were several songs that I did plan to do that didn't come out right.
Lastly, however bad things may seem,we are still better off than many and we should be thankful that we are alive, have health and the ability to do things. This is why I believe that we all have a duty to give back if we can which is why for this album I have chosen HKCSF (Hong Kong Children's Skin Foundation) as the charity to donate all the proceeds to.... It might not end up as being much but I hope that through this we can generate some more awareness for them and get more people involved.
