USDA Strong Response to Vietnam Ban of Glyphosate Lauded by CropLife Asia
SINGAPORE,April 12,2019 -- CropLife Asia today commended United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue (USDA) for his public statement regarding the Vietnam Government decision to place a national ban on the herbicide known as glyphosate.
The full statement from Secretary Perdue can be found at the USDA website via the following link: https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2019/04/11/perdue-statement-vietnams-ban-importation-glyphosate
"When it comes to food production, agricultural systems, and the scientific regulatory bodies that guide them, the United States is in an elite class. The statement made by Secretary Perdue on the situation in Vietnam speaks for itself," said CropLife Asia Executive Director Siang Hee Tan.
"Vietnam's 25 million farmers deserve our support and more access to plant science technology, not less. Taking safe and effective herbicides like glyphosate out of the hands of Vietnam Farmers puts them at a competitive disadvantage, increases the likely impact of counterfeits, and signals a step backwards for national food production."
