Representing the beginning of the 'Decade of Action' and marking the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN),2020 is a significant year on many counts. However, due to COVID-19,many meaningful events for children throughout the year have either been postponed or cancelled.
To turn the crisis into an opportunity to make a difference,Family Mask and The MXA Group joined forces with Jumpstart Media to organize Jumpstart Kids: Young SDG Leaders (Junior Edition) Program which went live on July 27,2020. 12 participating young leaders went through a three-week program covering the UN's role and the pressing importance of working towards its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The key message of the program was that age was not a barrier to achieving purposeful impact in less- and least-developed countries. Kids participated in the program were empowered to complete "missions". As such, the kids were empowered to complete tasks that would support at-risk communities around the world with medical-grade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Given the choice to select NGOs and communities around the world to support according to their chosen SDGs. As a finale to the Summer program, they had the opportunity to learn about PPE manufacturing, and personally pack their own donations at the Family Mask headquarters in Hong Kong.
As a local startup in Hong Kong, the establishment of Family mask is to end the critical shortage of PPE to create a safer and healthier world. Family Mask was founded to cater to the Hong Kong demand gap initially, but soon extended its reach globally to address shortages in the most severely affected communities. Family Mask has donated over 1,000,000 face masks to communities in need, with the help of partner organizations in the UN Global Compact Community as well as members of the Global Shapers Community and the Forum of Young Global Leaders, both initiatives of the World Economic Forum.
Members of Family Masks' commitment and engagement with UN activities led them to all choose a unique SDG that reflects their own life experiences. Jessie Chung, founder of Family Mask representing SDG 5 (Gender Equality) said "My path as an entrepreneur wasn't paved with roses as a girl in a male-dominated world. We must work towards ending discrimination against women and girls everywhere." Jessie's father – Teddy believes that his children have been equipped with all they need to make impactful contributions to the world. Jessie's co-founder – Kenneth Kwok and Global Citizen Capital were also the co-organizer of this UN activity.
Family Mask will continue to spare no effort to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and will actively explore more possibilities in the future. In September 2020,Family Mask will launch the "#BackToSchool" campaign in response to UN75. #BacktoSchool is a campaign that supports our global initiative #MaskforAll - building on the prior campaigns which have seen Family Mask donating more than 1,000 masks to at-risk communities, the Company has innovated and will launch our purposeful philanthropy platform supported by our newly created social impact hybrid e-commerce system that now supports worldwide delivery. We have chosen various partners including the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Child Mind Institute to support with our#BacktoSchoolcampaign with the #ColorsforCauses initiative, allowing our customers to make an optional donation or redirect their discount to these organisations upon checking out. We hope to create meaningful synergy while providing high-quality protective care, spanning all corners of the world.
