The first Hong Kong International Summit on Chinese Medicine Concluded Successfully

HONG KONG,Aug. 6,2018 -- Organised by the Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association,the first Hong Kong International Summit on Chinese Medicine concluded successfully yesterday,with around 1200 Chinese Medicine practitioners and experts in attendance. In recent years,athletes around the world have chosen to recover from strains and injuries by cupping therapy and other Chinese Medicine therapies,which has drawn the attention of foreign media. This has proven that the broad application of Chinese medicine has contributed to the welfare of the international community. It has also demonstrated the potential of further development in Chinese medicine. In fact,Chinese Medicine has received international attention in scientific research and clinical study. It has been the main focus of the forum to further discuss the wider development direction of Chinese Medicine. Many people overseas are now interested in,and are beginning to receive,Chinese Medicine therapy. This shows the huge potential of Chinese Medicine in providing healthcare and medical services to people around the world. The first Hong Kong International Summit on Chinese Medicine organised by Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association invited the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,Mrs. Carrie Lam,to host the opening ceremony. During the summit,experts of Chinese Medicine from around the world shared their views on the scientific research and future development of Chinese medicine.

"Chinese medicine is a gem of Chinese traditional culture and longevity," said Professor ZHU En,President of the Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association. "This summit,which gathers experts from around the world,not only maintains the status of Hong Kong in the country's Belt-and-Road initiative,but also offers a platform for the industry to exchange ideas,giving a shot in the arm for future development of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong. This builds on the fact that there have been some significant achievements in Hong Kong Chinese Medicine recently. Benefiting from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development along with the country's Belt-and-Road initiative,the local industry can easily connect with the Mainland,bringing Chinese medicine to a whole new level."

Over 100 Chinese Medicine experts from around the world attended the summit,while 11 international experts also attended to discuss the latest global developments in Chinese Medicine and its advantages

Chinese Medicine has really begun to gain prominence on the international stage. Several countries increasingly focus on Chinese Medicine therapy; Australia,for example,introduced a regulation for Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners in 2012; in UAE,Herbal Medical Centre was set up. Germany opened its own Chinese Medicine Hospital in 1991 and has hosted international forums. Currently,countries around the globe are putting more resources into this research and academic area.

Chinese Medicine is expected to reach an unprecedented level in light of the potential unleashed by the Belt and Road Initiative. Over 100 Chinese Medicine experts from around the world including Mr. MA Jian-zhong,P.R.C and President of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societie; Mr. WANG Guo-qiang,P.R. China; Professor Sophia CHAN Siu-chee,Secretary for Food and Health;Dr CHAN Hon-yee,Director of Health; Professor ZHANG Bo-li,Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; Professor WANG Qi,Grand Master of Chinese Medicine;Dr. CHEUNG Wai-lun,Project Director of the Chinese Medicine Hospital Project Office; Professor BIAN Zhao-xiang,Associate Vice-President (Chinese Medicine Development) of Hong Kong Baptist University; Professor LEE Yue-wei,Associate professor at Harvard University and Dr. XU Qi-he from King's College London attended the first Hong Kong International Summit on Chinese Medicine to discuss several important topics,which included the development and applications of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong and overseas.

"This year's summit on Chinese Medicine is a valuable learning opportunity for the local industry," said Professor FENG Jiu,Chairman of Hong Kong International Summit on Chinese Medicine Association. "Externally,this is also a great opportunity to show the worldour Hong Kong Chinese Medicine standards in clinical medicine,education and research." She expects to see further similar events that could boost the growth of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong in the future,and added,"Chinese Medicine development is not just an industry,but also a global mission of improving people's health."
