Hong Kong Institute of Construction Inherit Professional Skills to Nurture Exceptional Talents
HONG KONG,Oct. 4,2018 -- Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC),a member organisation of the Construction Industry Council (CIC),is now officially established,reaching a significant milestone for the development of the industry.
The HKSAR Government shows the support to the establishment of HKIC. Mr. Paul CHAN,Financial Secretary,and Mr. Michael WONG,Secretary for Development,attend the grand opening ceremony held at the HKIC - Tai Po Training Ground
The establishment of HKIC aims to nurture an accomplished construction workforce with sound professional skills,theoretical knowledge,safety awareness,innovative ideas,passion and pride for the construction industry of Hong Kong. HKIC's Diploma in Construction (Metalworks & Welding) has been accredited by the HKCAAVQ with Qualification Framework Level 3,equipping students to obtain both professional construction training and recognised educational qualification,and thus,facilitating their career development and progression. Referring to the estimated figure from HKIC,there is a gap of supply and demand for 5,000 to 10,000 construction workers in coming few years. The establishment of HKIC shows the effort from the HKSAR Government and CIC to tackle this challenge.
Mr. Paul CHAN,said that the construction industry is one of the most important sectors for the development of Hong Kong. With HKIC and CIC serving as platforms,he hoped to work together with the industry to enhance its strengths and to build a better and more livable home.
Prof. LEE Chack-fan,Chairman of HKICMB added,"In line with the future development of construction industry,HKIC has carried out reform on curriculum,facilities and qualification of instructors. To facilitate the professionism of the industry and students' personal development,HKIC has incorporated a range of applicable innovative initiatives and whole-person education into the current training programmes. In the coming two years,we will carry out enhancement and renovation works for different campuses and training grounds. We will also provide the opportunity of continuing education for instructors."
In the coming future,HKIC will uphold the motto of "To dedicate• To excel" and continue to seek validation under the Qualification Framework for other programmes and nurture a strong pipeline of knowledge-based talents for the industry.

About the Construction Industry Council
The Construction Industry Council (CIC) was formed in 2007 under the Construction Industry Council Ordinance (Cap. 587). The CIC consists of a chairman and 24 members representing various sectors of the industry including employers,professionals,academics,contractors,workers,independent persons and Government officials.
The main functions of the CIC are to forge consensus on long-term strategic issues,convey the industry's needs and aspirations to the Government,provide professional training and registration services,and serve as a communication channel between the Government and the construction industry.

To tie in with the changes and progress of the construction industry in Hong Kong,the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) was established in 2018 and the opening ceremony is held on 3 October 2018. HKIC is an organisation member of the Construction Industry Council and provides a series of construction training courses (including full-time and part-time) to the young people intending to work in the construction industry,people looking for a new job in another industry and experienced construction practitioners,with an intention to nurture "knowledgeable" practitioners.
