The Need for Cross-sectoral Collaborations and Reinvention of Education

Under globalization, the revolution of information technology and innovation-based economy, the world is changing at a rapid scale and pace. SES 2018's theme entitled,"Co-creating Innovation in Education",echoes with the Ednovation Fest's slogan, which is to "Unite and Reinvent Education!". Both innovative events connect educators, government, corporate,NGO representatives and parents who are looking for educational innovations which can empower young people and nurture future leaders.

Educators Cheng Kai-ming & Elliot Washor lead symposium

At the symposium,Professor Cheng Kai-ming shared,"Nowadays, students learn inside and outside schools. Recent developments in the Science of Learning try to start from a student-centric learning approach and conduct holistic studies on different kinds of learning elements at every stage of students' growth and development. These studies aim to support, reconfirm, adjust and improve the traditional teaching and learning values, and provide educators with a clearer direction on innovative pedagogies; giving students a voice in education and encouraging them to become proactive learners."

Dr. Elliot Washor shared about his 40-year innovative education work experience with participants at the symposium. Twenty-three years ago,he co-founded Big Picture Learning and Met Center in the U.S. with aims to listen to students' needs, understand their interests, and recognize their individuality. He believes that,"Students' success should not solely be determined by their academic achievement at school; rather, their successes,be it academic or non-academic,should also be fully acknowledged by society."

Dr. Washor will be holding another seminar at the Ednovation Fest's Experiential Days, which starts tomorrow on November 24. He will join the officiating guest Dr. Roy Chung Chi-ping,Chairman of Vocational Training Council,Mrs. Gloria Leung Chan,Consulting Principal of Kau Yan School (Primary),Ms. Ada Wong, and Mr. Arnold Chan,Founder & CEO of Teach for Hong Kong,to innovate together with parents and schools and address changing needs in education for the new generation.
