HONG KONG,June 12,2019 --The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS) is pleased to announce that its largest annual professional development event, the Annual Corporate and Regulatory Update (ACRU) conference, was successfully held on Wednesday,5 June 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event has a hard-earned reputation for offering first-hand information and updates as to the corporate and regulatory developments and the emerging trends in Hong Kong togovernance professionals that are pivotal to business success in the 21st century.

ACRU 2019,now in its 20th year, has gathered members of HKICS,regulators and other business leaders including company secretaries, directors, governance professionals and senior management,to meet and hear from the regulators and some of the foremost voices in corporate governance and organisational leadership. Representatives from the Companies Registry,Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission delivered presentations at ACRU 2019.

Tickets for the 20th ACRU were sold out a month in advance, and the event has reached a record-breaking attendance of more than 2,000 delegates. The responses from the participants revealed a growing level of interest for both HKICS and its role as guiding light in good governance, according to HKICS President,Mr David Fu,FCIS FCS(PE).

'The ACRU is a reliable weather vane for the prevailing conditions for the governance professionals in Hong Kong,' Mr Fu said at the opening address of theevent. 'The topics we will be addressing at thisyear's ACRU are those at the top of the governance agenda, including: sustainability,ESG disclosures (in particular those related to climate change),listed company regulation and enforcement priorities, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financingrequirements for trust or company service providers.'

Not only will ACRU participants hear directly from the regulators, this year's programme has introduced an innovation in the format of adding a new 'Practitioner Practical Sharing' session which looked at preventive/responsive approaches to inside information/regulatoryinvestigations.

By delivering the best practices to the Hong Kong governance community at a professional development event,HKICS makes good on its mission to be the best of class advocate and educator in the field of good governance.

'It is no doubt that the governance environment in Hong Kong continues to grow in complexity,' said Mr Fu. 'Governance issues are now crucial to a wider field of stakeholders. We welcome governance professionals from different backgrounds to join our Institute,a body which is globally recognised as the natural home to governance professionals.'
