Sunway Education Group Begins Alibaba eCommerce Integration

KUALA LUMPUR,Malaysia,Aug. 30,2019 -- Sunway University hosted its first Alibaba Cross-Border eCommerce Simulation Platform 2-Day Training recently for academic staff and teachers to equip them with knowledge and skills to use,operate and teach the simulation platform as part of Sunway Education Group's recent inclusion in the Alibaba Global eCommerce Talent (GET) Network initiative.

The Alibaba Global eCommerce Talent (GET) Network initiative is a global network that facilitates students to be part of the digital economy,training them to be business owners and equipping them with entrepreneur skills and knowledge.

The Network provides the students learning materials based on real-world case studies and videos learning through GET Online Learning platform and the Simulation platform. Sunway University and Sunway College are officially members of the Network.

Explaining Sunway Education Group's participation in the initiative,Sunway Education Group Chief Executive Officer,Dr Elizabeth Lee said,"Through thelearning materialsstudents are able to learn the Alibaba online business ecosystem and understand important business concepts for the digital economy which will increase their competitiveness."

"The initiative alsoallows the students to see the differencesbetween operating online stores compared totraditional retail stores,what makes major internet companiessuccessful and how internet start-ups and companies operate and differ in work culture. The integration of the Alibaba GET syllabus into our curriculum will help us foster a new generation of talented and young passionate entrepreneurs who can bring new business ventures and innovation into our country,ultimately building talent to support Malaysia's drive towards a digital economy," added Dr Lee.

The training was led by Alibaba GET Network Lead Trainer and Project Manager,Andreas M Strandgaard. Alibaba GET Network General Secretary Zhou Yong,Alibaba Group-Academic Committee and Global eCommerce Talent (GET) Program Director Matthew Kung,ORACLE Cross-Border eCommerce Practical Training Lecturer Kevin Xia Yu were also part of the training team.

Sunway University has included the Alibaba GET syllabus into their BSc (Hons) Information Systems (Business Analytics) and BSc (Hons) Mobile Computing with Entrepreneurship at the School of Science and Technology; and BSc (Hons) Business Studies,BSc (Hons) Business Management,BA (Hons) Entrepreneurship,BSc (Hons) in International Business,and their BSc (Hons) Global Supply Chain Management programmes at the Sunway University School of Business (SUBS) while Sunway College @Velocity will be offering the GET programme next year.

Sunway's intention to collaborate with Alibaba began in January when four academic staff were invited to Alibaba Headquarters in Hang Zhou,China to attend a 5-day Alibaba GET Train the Trainer programme. In July during the 12th Annual China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week 2019 held in Guiyang,Guizhou,China,the exchange of memorandum of agreement between Dr Lee and Zhang Yu,Partner and Vice-President of Alibaba Group,sealed their partnership.
