Xinhua Silk Road: UN-Habitat official hails E. China's Wehai for sustainable urban development

BEIJING,Aug. 4,2023 -- Bruno Dercon,officer-in-charge of the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific,praised the efforts made by Wehai city,east China's Shandong Province in achieving sustainable urban development and net-zero carbon emissions goal.

During his participation in the Exquisite City Forum which was held on June 12,2023 in Weihai,Bruno Dercon had a good impression of Weihai. Weihai is "a prosperous,beautiful,well organized clean city,"Dercon said.

Itislearned that the forum was held at the time of the 20th anniversary of Weihai being awarded the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor award for its outstanding contribution to sustainable urban development.

Weihai's experience can be used as a reference for manysimilar cities around the world,said Dercon,adding that from a global perspective,Weihai is a small city but has made pleasing achievements in sustainable economic development.

UN-Habitat is willing todeepen cooperation with Weihai on building a zero-carbon city,so that residents here can enjoy better work and life,Dercon added.
