LG Innotek launch lawsuit for UV LED Patent Infringement
The company filed a patent infringement suit against Evergreat Inc.
SEOUL,South Korea,July 27,2018 -- LG Innotek filed patent infringement lawsuits in the United States against manufacturers and sellers of UV nail dryers to protect their UV LED technology.
On the 25th,LG Innotek filed UV LED patent infringement lawsuits against several manufacturers and sellers including Evergreat Inc. and its affiliate companies in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. This is the first time LG Innotek filed a patent lawsuit asserting against UV LED products.
The UV nail dryer is a device to quickly dry nails after applying a nail polish to the fingernails and toenails. It utilizes the characteristics of ultraviolet rays that chemically react with certain materials. UV LEDs,due to their excellent performance and safety, are widely used as a light source.
Evergreat is a manufacturer and seller of UV nail dryers headquartered inCalifornia. It is well known for its 'MelodySusie' brand in the market.
LG Innotek filed lawsuits because Evergreat used LG Innotek's LED chip technology patents in all of its 10 UV nail dryer models. The company requested the court to prohibit the sale of these products and award damages.
LG Innotek sent warning letters to Evergreat since January and demanded it to stop unauthorized use of the patents. But,as Evergreat did not respond to its request, the company filed lawsuits.
LG Innotek intends to strengthen enforcement of its UV LED patents and strictly cope with unauthorized use of the patented technologies to protect its intellectual property rights. As LG Innotek is ahead of the global UV LED market, competitors may imitate its core technologies.
LG Innotek is leading the market by introducing high quality UV LEDs of various wavelengths for curing, exposure, sterilization, and horticulture. Last year, the company boasted its proprietary technology by developing UV LEDs for sterilization with the world's best light output of 100 milliwatts.
The UV LED market has a bright future. According to "Yole Developpement," a market research firm, the global UV LED market is expected to grow more than sevenfold from 2016's 151.9 million USD to 1117.8 million USD in 2021.
Kim Jin-hyun,a vice president of the intellectual property division of the company, said,"We have been developing our core UV LED technologies through continuous investment and R&D for many years." He also said,"We will strictly deal with unfair patent infringement by our competitors."
